Nurture is pleased to be collaborating with VCU School of Nursing in “Mindful Moms,” a study exploring the effect of prenatal yoga on specific measures of mood and health in pregnant women with depressive symptoms.

Purpose of the Study:

To test whether the “Mindful Moms” program, which involves gentle prenatal yoga and mindfulness of symptoms, can be helpful for mood and health in pregnant women with depressive symptoms.

Who is eligible to participate in the study:

  • Pregnant women who have experienced depressive symptoms (feeling blue, tired, etc.)
  • Could complete a 12 week gentle prenatal yoga program designed for women with no previous experience with yoga

What is involved:

The “Mindful Moms” program involves a meeting with a nurse to discuss your symptoms and your goals and requires participation in a 75-minute group gentle prenatal yoga once a week for 12 weeks, plus some home activity. Participation in this study will require 14 contacts with the study team over a 12-week period during your pregnancy and 1 contact with the study team after you have your baby.

Compensation:

At four times during the study, participants will be compensated with a $25 gift card. If a participant completes the entire study, she can receive a total of $100 in gift cards.

Time Frame:

The Mindful Moms study starts September 21, 2016 and will be enrolling participants for 12 week sessions through June 2017.
