#RVAbreastfeeds is a Healthy Communities Action Team that seeks to reduce childhood obesity through policy, infrastructure, and environmental changes that promote a breastfeeding friendly community. Since 2013 we have utilized a collective impact approach that brings multiple stakeholders together to address the complex social, demographic, and structural challenges that surround human milk feeding. Our public awareness activities have received recognition at national and international conferences. #RVAbreastfeeds is listed as a best practice example in the Action Plan For a Healthy Virginia.
#RVAbreastfeeds is supported by funding from Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth, and administered through Nurture. Our current formal partners include Nurture, Birth in Color RVA, Richmond City WIC, Richmond and Henrico Health Districts, Family Lifeline, Healthy Families Richmond, VCU School of Medicine, The Diverse Doula, Coming Home In-Home Lactation and Family Consultation, and several community members who are milk feeding advocates. Visit the #RVAbreastfeeds website to learn more about past coalition activities and initiatives.
